Gamalon grew out of the same seed as the ground breaking jazz fusion group Spyro Gyra. In fact, the original drummer of Spyro, Ted Rhinehardt, is the drummer and founding member of Gamalon. Gamalon is considered more of a progressive fusion band due to its hard rock bent and two guitars.
